Cigar and Collage

Well, when I think of cigars, I think of 1800 pictures of men, sitting together, chatting and smoking. I think of my dad, when he would take me to Bergwall Pharmacy in Worcester Mass in the 1960's, and have me sit on one of those swirly stools in front of a soda fountain, and wait for him to do a few errands (at that time, a man could help the pharmacist without having a degree in pharmacy), and I would spin and spin on my stool, suck on a cherry lollipop, wait and watch my dad, and wait and wait, like a little girl of 3 years old. Surround me would be lawyers and judges from the courthouse, smoking their huge stinky stogies. So, I did just that, added an antique image of men, sitting together, as I visualized them waiting for their picture to be taken, and then brake up to step outside or sitting on a chair in a lounge, smoking their cigar. I used encaustic wax, many layers of vintage papers, acrylic paint, grungy colored inks, watercolor pastels, graphite and charcoal. The owner of the cigar shop loved this one the best. I like the one below with the bubbles.

Collage-a french term

The more I work on collage, the more intense it gets for me. It is so intriguing because I sit with all of my ephemera, paints, inks, brushes, pencils, markers, glues, stickers, rubons, stencils, water pastels, prismacolor pencils, graphite.... Sometimes I have an agenda, a theme in mind, other times I have nothing in mind, just alot of supplies around me and I select the favorite vintage photo, and run from there. If you would like to know how I do some of my work, please write, I would love to share and be a penpal. The pieces you will see below I have in a cigar/hookah lounge. The owner wanted me to do some artwork to hang and to sell and I was extremely excited about it. It took me about four weeks to do the two pieces, on and off I worked on them, having to let them sit a bit to go back and lookagain.
If you want to borrow any of my pictures to put on your blog just ask ok?:)

Salvage and Antiques Furniture

My husband and I went to an antique salvage warehouse in New Hampshire a couple of weeks ago. Millions and millions of dollars worth of doors, grates, columns, stained glass windows and you name it. Couldn't afford a thing. If you redoing a circa home or just love old stuff, that was the place.

Bathtubs galore outside, fire place mantle leaning upon each other inside.

The colors were glorious, especially the windows. The deep browns of wood colors, shabby chic columns...just have to keep an eye out for these types of things in other locations. Was fun to dream though, wondering where each piece came from.
