Use a Bone Folder to Rub the Transfer

I bought a roll of packing tape at the Dollar Store. I cut a piece and layed it over the surface of the copied picture. I rubbed it with the bone folder, all over the picture till I rubbed well and every spot possible. The first attempt I made was placing the piece in a bowl of water. I have done that type of transfer before so I tried it again. Last time I made one and soaked it in water was a transfer of a magazine page and it came out lovely. The white copy paper I believe is too soft and thin and it did not come out. I decided to do another one.

Great Art Supply Finds at the Dollar Tree Store

Brightly colored art supplies at the Dollar Tree Store!
Sometimes you or your art work needs some inspiration. I always keep my eye opened in the Dollar Tree for those little items that can be added to a art journal page, to that canvas, or ATC.

I need supplies around me to make make me go "Oooo, I want to use that"! I just don't think, I would like light blue lace with blue hearts hanging of of it. Be careful though! You can overspend and have things around that you will never use.

I keep a little notebook near by. When I am learning from YouTube or social Ning sites, I write down an art supply or medium that I don't have or would like to find something like it. Then when I am out doing chores or glancing around "window shopping", I know when I am getting a good buy.

Tags-Like Little Petit Journal Pages

I don't know where this journal spread came from but all I know is that I had a ball. I had taken a photo of a water fountain in a beautiful botanical garden in Andover Mass about three years ago. I didn't want the photo to just hang around, I didn't feel like framing it, and I didn't want to junk it.
so months ago, I cut it out and applied it to my journal along with a gum package and gum wrapper. It stayed this way for months. I also love labels or tags from clothing and save them figuring they would make great tabs for journal pages. I gessoed the tags and put them inside the gum container and there they sat until tonight. The whole spread I did this evening. Shocked I am to be honest with you. I just let go and went wild. A bit different than my style because I always seem to go green, black and gold and grungy. This time I went more bright psychadelic colors.

I went to the Dollar Store today and found these small acrylic pots of paint in tropic colors and "Fresh" colors. Yes, that is what they were called. So I began to use a palette knife which is different for me and applied them to the pages-that was step one for tonight.

2. Stenciled with a metal stencil and a plastic stencil.

3. Flicked paint.

4. Stencilled with an absorbent ground to raise an image.

5. Used bronze acrylic paint and used a tool to create texture.

6. Dotted sparkly paint.

7. Attached hydrangea petals stamped out with a punch into paint tabs.

8. Applied with medium the clothing labels onto pieces of papers, ripped the edges, grunged them up with black and walnut ink pads. Punched holes and attached with hemp to the journal page.

9. Added a small embellishment of yard.

10. Began to journal on the back of the re-gessoed tag.

Having an Artist Date

Today was my planned artist date: IDEA from the "The Artist Way". A book I had read about from many art sites, I decided to look up and read. The book and I have different ideologies but I figure why not learn from it what I can.

Take a day out of the week, just a couple of hours, and go off by yourself and do something creative. I actually enjoyed thinking about ideas. One idea in the book was to go to the dollar store and buy five dollars worth of fun little stuff and use it.

I had different ideas that I logged down on my computer. I thought that one day I could go to the art store and purchase 2-3 sheets of scrap booking paper and come home and integrate it into a new collage. Another idea I had was going and buying an unusual color of lipstick, a different color that I usually don't wear, buy it and wear it all day. The dollar store and CVS has inexpensive lipsticks. Plein Air is something I want to get more comfortable with and I thought I should pack a back with plenty of water for my watercolors and go paint somewhere where there is no one looking over my shoulder and I can have a quiet time.

Think of some ideas and write to me. It would be fun to share them.
